George Arland Probst, 70, of Avondale, died suddenly on Sunday, September 7, at his home.He was the husband of Beverly Adkins Probst, with whom he shared 49 years of marriage.

Born in West Grove, he was the son of the late Ray and Margaret Hornig Probst.

Mr. Probst was a graduate of Kennett High School, Class of 1957. He was a member of the Oddfellows Club and served as Vice President of Delaware Beekeepers Association.

He was a stockman for Chrysler Parts Depot for 40 years, retiring in 2000. After retirement he worked part time for Guizetti’s Mushrooms.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, crabbing, beekeeping, gardening and dancing. He loved rescuing wildlife, raising birds, and his Koi pond.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, George Probst, Jr. and his wife, Carla, of Newark, Del., Darrell Probst and his companion, Joanne Holtje, of Hubbardston, Mass., and Lisa Probst and her companion, Todd Feldman of Downingtown; two grandsons, Jacob and Bryar Probst; one sister, Verna England of New London; many nieces and nephews; and many brothers-inlaw and sisters-in-law.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Richard Probst.

A funeral service was held at noon on Thursday, Sept. 11, at Cleveland & Grieco Funeral Home, Avondale. Interment was in Union Hill Cemetery
